Introducing Korowai Aroha

News

Kia ora and welcome as valued patients of Westend Medical

Many of you will have spent the last weekend in shock with the news that Stuart and Liz have sold Westend Medical. As the new owners, Korowai Aroha, we wish them well and sincerely hope they enjoy their holiday in Europe. We look forward to welcoming them both back in August – rested and full of enthusiasm and part of the Korowai Aroha/Westend team.

Our commitment matches that of Stuart and Liz, and we are looking forward to caring for you, your family and whānau and looking after your health needs.

Rest assured, our commitment to your health and well-being remains unwavering, we are committed to providing the same excellent care.
Korowai Aroha is very fortunate to be able to keep the valued and loyal staff; receptionists Pauline, Larissa and Kelly, Nurse Practitioner Cyndi, nurses Sarah and Nikki and Dr Lisa Cameron.

A bit about Korowai Aroha

The heart of Korowai Aroha is the unwavering commitment to our values which in turn guide our interactions. It defines our approach to patient and whānau care for the entire community. Our values, deeply rooted in Te ao Māori, serve as the foundation of our organisation, regardless of ethnicity – we are here for everyone. Korowai Aroha is a health centre, not just a medical centre in that we are here to support you on your health journey, however that may look. We also have a community-based team that offer a wide range of services in the wider community.

To help cover the sessions while Stuart is away, Dr Mike Tustin will be coming down from Korowai to assist and you may also meet the nurse lead, Aleisha.

About Mike; Mike is a fulltime GP at Korowai Aroha and is also a Trustee. Mike has been a practising GP in Rotorua for nearly 30 years has a vast understanding of the development and requirements of our organisation and is also the Team Lead in the GP Clinic.

Aleisha first joined Korowai Aroha as a student nurse in 2012 and came back to join the team as a nurse graduate in 2013. Since then, Aleisha has continued her studies and is now a Designated
Prescriber for Primary health and Speciality Teams and has also taken on the role of Clinical Nurse Lead.

Unfortunately, the Practice Manager Linda, left last month and we have employed a new person to take on this role. Metua joins us from Te Ngae Medical Centre and brings with her, experience and dedication in the primary care space. Metua’s role will be to support the team and ensure everything is running efficiently on a day-to-day basis.

Are you needing someone to talk to?

Every Wednesday here at Westend we have a HIP (Health Improvement Practitioner). Liane provides free 30-minute consultations and lends a compassionate ear, providing some practical strategies to help you get through, what can be some rough times.

Some of things Lianne can help you with are

  • Sleep deprivation
  • Benefits of being active
  • Relationship issues
  • Pain and long-term health challenges
  • Mental well being
  • Stresses from work
  • Life out of balance
  • Drug and alcohol counselling

Or do you just need someone to off load to?

You don’t need a referral, just ring the clinic and the receptionists will book an appointment for you.

Easter and Anzac Weekend

This means two short weeks in the clinic, if we aren’t able to offer an appointment next week, we should be able to the following week. However, if you are very unwell, please phone and talk to one of the nurses and we will endeavour to help.

We look forward to meeting you all over the coming months, wishing you all a lovely Easter (despite the impending weather), and we hope the Easter bunny visits on Sunday morning.
